PIH and SAP Ariba’s Partnership Takes Aim at Transforming PIH Procurement Processes

Power International Holding (PIH) partners with SAP Ariba, in a kick-off session held at PIH Tower last April 16, 2019. The discussion tackled the digital transformation of PIH’s procurement processes and an initial introduction to SAP Ariba’s Spend Analysis Software.

The kick-off session was facilitated by Mr. Gustavo Rico, PIH’s Chief Procurement & Supply Chain Officer. The project kick-off was officially co-led by Mr. Maurice Ghattas, Group Managing Director of PIH and Mr. Carlos Mercuriali, SVP and GM of SAP, Europe South, Middle East and Africa. The meeting was attended by PIH Senior Executives; Mr. Eyad Abdulrahim, Chief Financial Officer; Mr. Ahmed El Zeftawy, Chief Human Resource Officer; Mr. Nabil Ghantous, CEO of UCC Holding; Mr. Aladin Wazani, Chief Estimation & Business Development Officer; Mr. Jasim Abdul Rahman, Senior IT Director and; Procurement Managers and Directors from PIH’s group of companies.  From SAP Ariba, more than 8 Senior Directors and Customer Managers attended the session.

One of the most exciting moment of the session was the demo of the platform, presented by SAP Ariba’s Senior Solution Consultant, Mr. Paul Hodgson. The SAP Ariba Spend Analysis Software will give PIH a clear insight to the company’s spending visibility, to make better and faster buying decisions and negotiate with more clout. The software will also analyze where savings leak, identify purchasing overlaps, and an overview of the company’s spending in comparison to industry peers.

“We have to be extremely competitive and we have to be able to procure better, at an advantage to everybody around us. Using tools such as this, we are going to change our mindset from thinking tactically to strategically” says Mr. Maurice Ghattas.

The platform, which as of March 2018 had more than 3 million buyers and suppliers and more than $1.7 trillion in transactions, is designed to provide a user-friendly interface, familiar to anyone who shops online. SAP Ariba provides sellers with the ability to manage catalogs, bids, purchases and invoices, and it provides buyers with the ability to search for suppliers, negotiate savings, procure goods and services, and track spending.

This meeting is a great example of collaboration and partnership to create value for our Group; attendees showed great interest and excitement to know in detail the next steps and how to accelerate the implementation. Mr. Eyad Abdulrahim proposed that the first supplier bid in the platform to happen live, inviting Procurement Managers and Directors of each company to attend and celebrate the success together.

The platform is expected to be fully implemented in the upcoming months, following precise training from the SAP team and Procurement Officers.
