A group of Qatari and Austrian businessmen gathered last Tuesday for the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber Forum, held in Vienna, Austria. The panel for the conference were co-chaired by the Minister of Commerce and Industry in Qatar, H.E. Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari and the President of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, H.E. Mr. Harald Mahrer.
In his opening speech, H.E. Mr. Al Kuwari called on Qatar and Austria to capitalize on their potential to further bolster bilateral trade, valued at around 187 million euros in 2018. In addition, he cited the World Bank’s forecast that Qatari economy will grow by 2.7 percent in 2019 and around 3 percent by 2020. H.E. Al Kuwari highlighted Qatar’s success in consolidating its position as one of the region’s most stable, competitive and growth-oriented economies, led by non-oil sectors whose contribution to GDP at constant prices was around 52 percent in 2017.
Among notable attendees in the forum were Chairman of Qatar Chamber, H.E. Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani; Chairman of the Qatari Business Association, H.E. Sheikh Faisal Bin Qasim Al Thani; Vice Chairman and Group CEO of Power International Holding, Mr. Ramez Al Khayyat, along with other businessmen, senior officials, decision-makers and investors from Qatar and Austria.
Mr. Ramez Al Khayyat affirms that the global presence of Qatar businesses in countries such as Austria is imperative in building the framework of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup. With this, PIH continuously seek potential clients abroad, and the visit to Austria proves to be a unique and attractive investment destination for business opportunities and future partnerships.
The one-day forum concluded with agreements between Qatar private sectors and its Austrian counterpart. H.E. Sheikh Faisal Bin Qasim al Thani reiterated his keenness to increase partnerships between the two countries at governmental and private levels.
