French firm Bouygues Construction has been chosen to construct sewage tunnels in Qatar.

Qatar’s Public Works Authority awarded two contracts for the design and construction of sewage tunnels to Bouygues Travaux Publics, in consortium with Urbacon Trading and Contracting.

Both deals are worth $619.4m (EUR550m), of which Bouygues Travaux Publics’ share amounts to roughly $321.4m (EUR285m), according to a company statement.

The northern section, called MTS01, will be 16km, and is three meters wide.

The southern section, called MTS03, will measure 14km, and 4.5 meters wide.

These contracts form part of Qatar’s strategic projec, Inner Doha Resewerage Implementation Strategy (IDRIS), for collecting, pumping, and treat Doha South wastewater.

Work on the project began this summer, with handover scheduled for 2019.
